Reborn was designed for Cherrywood Hand-dyed Fabric’s ‘Monarch Challenge‘ in 2023.
Inspiration comes from many sources. This one began when I learned of my grandson’s interest in the monarch, which was sparked by a kindergarten lesson last fall.
Yes, they are incredibly beautiful and amazing creatures, and their annual journeys are most impressive! Last year they officially were designated as an ‘endangered species’ and this Cherrywood Hand Dyed Fabrics challenge hopes to raise awareness about their plight.
As one who is a new creation in Christ, I love the example of the caterpillar and the butterfly! Their complete transformation illustrates the concept that it is possible to die to one’s old self and live again as a completely new and beautiful creation.
2 Corinthians 5:17
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
In Reborn, I adapted slightly Richard Bach’s quote about the caterpillar and butterfly, “What the caterpillar calls the end of the world, the Creator calls a butterfly”.
Genesis 1:1
“In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth.”
I surrounded my monarch caterpillar and butterfly with lots of the milkweed leaves and flowers that are necessary to sustain them.
Reborn was selected as one of the 225 finalists. It will make its debut at Quilt Festival in Houston, TX in November 2023 and then travel throughout the United States in 2024 with the Caterpillar Collection. (See the schedule below.)
