Four Square
(30″ Sq.)
Designed, pieced, and quilted by Sue Hickman Berryville, Va 8/2012
Simply put, these four fabrics “spoke” to me. They cried to be made into a quilt, however I could only find a fat quarter of each. I was inspired to first square off each of the four fat quarters, and then I made only 4 separate, random cuts, creating four pieces of each fabric. I next shifted the pieces such that each fabric is represented in each quadrant of this quilt. When finishing this piece, I quilted each piece of same fabric the same way throughout the top yielding a modern, harmonious design.
This quilt was shown in the 2013 Quilter’s Unlimited 40th Anniversary Quilt Show at Dulles Expo Center.
While visiting Mare’s Bears Quilt Shop in historic Lewes, DE, I came across 11 fabrics that I thought went well together. Because there was only a fat quarter of many of these fabrics, when I got home I thought long and hard about what exactly I wanted to do with them before I jumped with rotary cutter in hand. In completing these two small wall quilts, I used up all of the red and much of the other fabrics. I’d love to hear which you like best???
